‘हुगली शास्त्रार्थ (प्रतिमा-पूजन विचार)’ महर्षि दयानन्द सरस्वती द्वारा किया गया एक अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध सार्वजनिक वैदिक शास्त्रार्थ है,
जो पं. ताराचरण के साथ 8 अप्रैल 1873 (संवत् 1930, चैत्र सुदी 11) को हुगली (बंगाल) में हुआ था।

इस शास्त्रार्थ का मुख्य विषय था — “प्रतिमा-पूजन की वैदिकता।”
महर्षि दयानन्द ने इसमें वैदिक प्रमाणों, तर्क, और विज्ञानसम्मत दृष्टिकोण से सिद्ध किया कि ईश्वर निराकार है और प्रतिमा-पूजन वेदविरुद्ध है।

यह शास्त्रार्थ भारतीय धार्मिक इतिहास में एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ था —

“Hugli Shastrarth (Debate on Idol Worship)” records the historic debate held between Swami Dayanand Saraswati and Pandit Taracharan at Hugli (Bengal) on April 8, 1873 (Vikram Samvat 1930, Chaitra Sudi 11).

The central topic of discussion was — “The Vedic validity of idol worship.”
In this debate, Swami Dayanand, with logical reasoning and scriptural evidence, firmly established that God is formless and that idol worship contradicts the Vedas.
